La Basse Vallée du Dun

Sensitive Natural Environments

The Dun Valley is a typical coastal river of Seine-Maritime. In its coastal part, before flowing into the sea, the Dun river flows through a vast meadow, protected from urban development and offering a remarkable landscape with Clos-Masure (traditional enclosed farmyard), groves and wet meadows, which are home to numerous species of breeding and migratory birds.

The Dun river used to meander until the 18th century. This former course is still visible in the fields located east of the river. It has been hugely altered over time. Nowadays, its course is straight and the estuary is completely diked.

Guided tours to explore this remarkable site are organised by the Department of Seine Maritime and its partners.

This site belongs to the Conservatoire du littoral (Coastal protection agency), and is managed by the Department of Seine-Maritime.
