Did you know ?
In Saint-Sylvain, there is a historic aerodrome. Indeed, this aerodrome was created during the Second World War. First of all, the airstrip was a German creation. Then the Americans used this base for the various supplies. These camps all had a cigarette brand name, hence the name “Camp Lucky Strike“.
Today, I invite you to discover the Aéroclub Cauchois in particular. This association has between 70 to 80 members. Guillaume and René, two pilot members of the association, presented us with the aerodrome infrastructures.
The hangars are used to park planes and microlights. Among these planes: 4 belong to the Aéroclub Cauchois, the others are private owners. At the heart of the hangars, a workshop is set up to make direct repairs. The advantage is that it has two certified aviation mechanics. Both volunteers, they maintain the machinery throughout the year.
Alongside the hangars, the administrative offices are there to ensure: flight control and monitoring, association meetings, and training for Aeronautical Initiation Certificates (BIA). In fact, the Aéroclub Cauchois has grants and agreements with high schools in: Dieppe, Fécamp, Yvetot and Saint-Valery-en-Caux. Three volunteer instructors provide training and simulation for future pilots. To obtain this patent, it takes approximately 45 to 50 hours of flight time.
Finally, the airfield has a grass airstrip. The aerodrome is only open for internal flights.
Throughout the year, first flights are offered by reservation. Various routes are possible along the coast of the Alabaster Coast.
